Upcoming PTA Meeting & Parent Learning Session

Busy Week for our Cougars!

Carroll's basketball teams will be away this week on Monday at East Garner, Wednesday at Dillard, and Thursday at Sanderson (North Garner). Please note that Thursday's games will be played at 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Attention Rising Freshmen - Magnet Application

As a friendly reminder, all 8th grade magnet students who intend to attend a magnet high school must apply for a magnet seat in order to maintain their priority status with student assignment. The magnet application deadline is January 31. 

Q2 Report Cards

Please expect your child's Q2 report card on Friday, February 3. Report cards will be sent home with students. 

Leadership Showcase - Save the Date

Good evening, Carroll Leaders! I hope that you have enjoyed a relaxing and reflective Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Tuesday, January 17 - Friday, January 20. 

Tomorrow afternoon, Carroll's basketball teams will compete away as they take on Ligon starting at 4:00 p.m. On Thursday, come join us in support of our Cougars at home as they compete against Daniels. 

This Friday is Genius Day at Carroll! This exciting occasion has afforded our creative and enthusiastic teachers the privilege of dreaming up a course beyond their typically assigned instructional responsibilities. Based on the results of our monthlong leadership challenge, our 7th graders had first dibs in the registration process this past Friday. Our 6th graders will register on Tuesday, followed by our 8th grade students on Wednesday. I cannot wait to enjoy what is sure to be a highly engaging learning experience with our school family!

Friday is also an early release day for all students. Dismissal will be held at 11:45 a.m. 

As a friendly reminder, we will makeup last weeks inclement weather days on Friday, January 27, Friday, February 20, and Friday, March 31.

Genius Day

Thanks to our awesome school community members who met our PTA's ambitious $10,000 fundraising goal this year, next Friday, January 20 will be Genius Day at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School. Whoooooohooooo! This exciting occasion has afforded our creative and enthusiastic teachers the privilege of dreaming up a course beyond their typically assigned instructional responsibilities. Our students are thrilled to have the voice and choice to select 3 new and exciting course offerings for a fun-filled day of learning. Based on the results of our monthlong leadership challenge, our 7th graders had first dibs in the registration process today. Our 6th graders will register on Tuesday, followed by our 8th grade students on Wednesday. I cannot wait to enjoy what is sure to be a highly engaging learning experience with our school family!

Introduction to Barre Exercise

Would you like to learn how ballet, pilates and yoga inspired movements can give you an extremely efficient workout? Would you like to participate in a low impact exercise that will raise your heart rate, increase strength, and improve mind-body concentration? If so, please sign up for Introduction to Barre Exercise with Ms Edwards. All fitness levels can participate. No materials required, just wear comfy clothes. If you have a yoga or exercise mat, please bring it too!
Fossil Making

Students will create replica fossils using plaster and molds.  Students can paint the fossils when dry.
Theatre - Informed Improv Performance!

Create and perform a short scene using bits of script, improvisation and images!  Every scene will be unique as it is created, on site, by the students.  This  will be a zany, fun and high energy event!  =)
"Dead Fish" Story Beginnings

Yoga for Beginners

Mastering your mind and body can have significant positive effects on your life at home and at school. Come learn the basics of yoga and meditation so you can find that peaceful self-control. Also beneficial for building core strength in athletes. Wear comfortable clothing and bring yoga mat if you have one.
Train Like A Roman Gladiator

How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse

Operation Gratitude - Write a letter to a Soldier

Operation Gratitude is a Non-Profit who sends care packages to military service members overseas. They ask for teachers to have students write personal handwritten letters to include in the packages to show our gratitude for their service.
LED Circuits

Come join us for an exploration of movie plots. We will be examining different movie genres and developing a plot for our own movie.
Improvisation

The situations in these starters should be fairly easy for beginning improvisers to put themselves into. Each character has a motivation, what that person wants in the scene. The actors should decide the "why" behind their desire before they start the scene. This will help them to keep focused during the improvisation. The specifics of the scenes can either be determined ahead of time, or they could be made up during the improv.

Happy New Year!

Good evening, Carroll Leaders! Happy New Year! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Tuesday, January 3 - Friday, January 6. 

It's LEAD week, and the Carroll family is looking forward to jumping into 2017 with a strong focus on Leader in Me, the Positivity Project, challenge based learning, and digital citizenship. Leadership, character, learner agency, and maintaining a current digital drivers license are essential ingredients in best supporting and strengthening a personalized and rigorous academic environment. Please ask your child about his/her Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) and top character strengths this week as we work to deepen each student's learner profile. 

As a friendly reminder, all student cell phones must be stored in lockers throughout the instructional day from 7:25 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. 

Please join us on Thursday afternoon as our basketball teams take on East Garner Middle School. The fun begins at 4:00 p.m. to cheer on our ladies and 5:30 p.m. to support our gentlemen. Admission is $5. 

As many of our families already know, in the coming months, don't be surprised if you find me on your door step. I am officially on a mission to visit every Carroll student at home by early August
