SchoolMessenger: Sunday, October 30, 2016 (Happy Week 10!)

Good evening, Carroll Leaders! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, October 31 - Friday, November 4.

Great news! An incredibly generous family offered to match up to $1000 in donations last week, and we did it! $2000 for Carroll students in just one week! This week, another magnanimous family offered to do the same. If we do it, we will have raised our goal of $10,000, and as a bonus, our students and staff will enjoy a Genius Day.

School is in session tomorrow for all students and staff as a make-up day for our inclement weather day on Monday, October 10. While we wish all school community members a very happy Halloween, school policy prohibits "disruptive" clothing, including head coverings, hats, masks, and hoods. Students should not wear face paint or costumes to school.

November 9, the Carroll family will host our first Leadership Showcase of the 2016-2017 school year! Please join us from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. as our dreamers, learners, leaders, and innovators showcase the exciting learning experiences that have captivated our students throughout first quarter. Don't worry about dinner --- our PTA will be selling pizza in the cafeteria. You will not want to miss this opportunity to see the incredible things that are happening at our great school.

Let's make it a fantastic week, Carroll Leaders! Have a great night.

SchoolMessenger: Sunday, October 23, 2016 (Happy Week 9!)

Good evening, Carroll Leaders. This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, October 24 - Friday, October 28.

Please join me in congratulating Ms. Shara Wolkomir, Carroll's 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Wolkomir is an incredibly dedicated and gifted teacher who is committed to doing right by our kids. She is always going above and beyond to ensure that all of our students' needs are met appropriately. She is a tremendous asset to the Carroll family.

It's already the last week of the first quarter of the school year. It's also Red Ribbon WeekSpooktacular Bookfair Week, and Creativity Week at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School. We are busy dreamers, learners, leaders, and innovators!

The 2016-2017 No Fuss Fundraiser deadline has been extended until this Friday, October 28. This is a very important event for our school because 100% of the money raised stays at Carroll to support our students this year. Our PTA has set an ambitious goal of $10,000, and we need your help in order to reach it. Donations can be made online by visiting our school website and selecting the PTA link under the Parents tab or directly at squareup.com/market/carroll-middle-school-pta. If we reach our goal, the Carroll team will facilitate a 'Genius Day' at Carroll, allowing students to create their own schedules from a list of super exciting course offerings.

As a friendly reminder, Carroll PE uniforms are a required supply. For families who have ordered a uniform, please encourage your child to see Coach Fish to pick it up this week, including all students who will not have PE until 2nd semester. If you have yet to order, please do so as soon as possible.

I'm looking forward to another incredible week at Carroll! Have a great night!

SchoolMessenger: Sunday, October 16, 2016 (Happy Week 8!)

Good evening, Carroll Leaders! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, October 17 - Friday, October 21.

It's hard to believe that it's already week 8! With only 2 weeks remaining in quarter 1, leadership expectations are in full swing. Curiosity, open-mindedness, kindness, fairness, and perspective have laid the ground work for students to focus on being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, putting first things first, thinking win-win, seeking first to understand, synergizing, and sharpening the saw. We are strong believers in the power of community at Carroll. Thank you for reinforcing these concepts with your children at home, so that together, we can strengthen our students' opportunities to 'discover their stories' happily, healthfully, and productively.

Communication is a priority at Carroll. If you are having difficulty following your child's academic experience, please contact his/her teachers for individual and team methods of communication. Our school website is a great launching point for contact information and classroom websites.

A Business Alliance meeting will be held this Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. in Carroll's learning commons. We are always looking to establish and deepen relationships within our community in order to strengthen real-world learning opportunities for our students. If you are interested in joining the Business Alliance, please contact Ms. Tanya Guinn, our Career Development Coordinator.

On Tuesday night, grab breakfast after dark at Biscuitville on Wake Forest Road and Carroll will receive 20% of the proceeds. It's a win-win! See you there between 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

There are so many great things happening at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School. Stay current by visiting our master calendar, located on our website.

We have an awesome week ahead of us! Have a great night.

SchoolMessenger: Wednesday, October 12, 2016 (Happy Mid-Week 7!)

Good evening, Carroll Leaders! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with some mid-week updates and reminders.

It's Perspective Week at Carroll, and our students are working to recognize the world from many points of view. The ability to appreciate that people see things in different ways is an important strength, and we are excited to start recognizing perspective in ourselves and in each other.

Our wonderful PTA's No Fuss Fundraiser is coming to a close and we need your support. If your family hasn't already contributed, the time to act is now. Every dollar counts. Plus --- the team of students with the most donations will win a dessert celebration. Please consider participating in this great opportunity to positively impact your child's learning experience at Carroll.

This Saturday, October 15, please join us for our 3rd Annual Sami 5K Run/Walk event. The race begins at 9:00 a.m. at Carroll, and if you still need to register, no worries --- you can register the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. A special thanks to Mr. Snarey who coordinates this event each year. My family and I can't wait to participate in this very special race. #OtherPeopleMatter at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School.

Have a great night!

SchoolMessenger: Sunday, October 2, 2016 (Happy Week 6!)

Good evening, Carroll Leaders! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, October 3 - Friday, October 7.

It's hard to believe that week 6 is already upon us. Interims will go home with students on Tuesday.

October 14 is right around the corner, Leaders. Please don't forget to participate in our amazing PTA's No Fuss Fundraiser.

Did you know that Carroll made the most proficiency growth out of any Wake County middle school during the 2015-2016 school year, and that as compared with all of the schools in the WCPSS, Carroll’s proficiency growth was more significant than 167 of all 171 schools? Yes, only 3 schools in the entire district improved student achievement more significantly than Carroll --- but we are a school on the move, and we aspire to become better every single day.

In addition to cultivating an engaging, fun, real-world, and safe learning environment for students, we want to grow them --- all 1003 of them. We are also working toward 80% proficiency, while closing the opportunity gap at our school.

Our Positivity Project focus this week is Fairness. Fairness enables us to see the value in all people, and it helps us to approach situations with an unbiased mindset, allowing us to treat all people with respect.

Our Girls' Soccer and Volleyball teams are home this week, taking on Ligon at 4:00 p.m. this Wednesday. Football, also competing against Ligon, will be away on Thursday for their game beginning at 4:00 p.m. as well.

Have an awesome evening! I'm looking forward to a fantastic week ahead at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School.
