SchoolMessenger: Sunday, January 31 - PTA #YouthUncovered Opportunity

We are looking forward to seeing our Carroll Community Tuesday night,

February 2 at 5:30 p.m.

for a brief PTA Meeting followed by a powerful presentation from the Poe Center called "Youth Uncovered."
If you have not done so already,
to let us know you are coming!

The Carroll PTA will be providing snacks and we need to know how much to buy! Even if you don't plan to eat anything, please respond  anyway so that we can make sure we pick a location in the school that will have enough space for everyone.

Come and take advantage of this amazing, FREE resource!

#YouthCulture is designed to empower parents, guardians, and anyone who works with youth by providing insight into the environment and culture surrounding our youth. This two hour workshop explores how the developing adolescent brain shapes perceptions and behavior.

Program topics will include substance use, Internet safety, sexting, and healthy dating relationships. In addition we will explore ways to enhance adult-youth communication.  All participants will receive a free packet of supportive materials and resources.

Participants must be 18 or older.

Tablet Update - From Mr. Harvey

We are currently experiencing two issues that are affecting some student tablets. If your child's tablet was updated to the latest operating system, he/she may not be able to add a WCPSS Google Account and/or access his/her Google Docs. Additionally, after the update, many of the tablets lost their ability to connect to 4G while not at school. We are currently working on a fix for both of these issues. There is nothing for you to report at this time if you are experiencing either of these. More information will be shared once it is available.

SchoolMessenger: Sunday, January 10, 2016

Good evening, Cougar Leaders, and Happy New Year! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, January 11 - Friday, January 15.

It's hard to believe that magnet application season is underway. If your child is currently assigned to Carroll as a transfer student, but you wish to apply for a magnet seat, the time to act is now. The magnet application deadline of January 22 is swiftly approaching.

Current magnet families must also submit applications for all siblings to gain priority family status, which will place siblings with an older brother or sister. Additionally, current 8th grade magnet students must apply for a continued magnet seat at a high school. Program pathways provide the highest possible priority status.

Come cheer on Carroll's basketball teams tomorrow, Monday, January 11 at home against Daniels, and this upcoming Wednesday, January 13 at Martin. School spirit makes a tremendous difference. Go, Cougars!

Please join us Wednesday, January 13 at 5:30 p.m. for our first PTA meeting of 2016. Attending these meetings is a great opportunity to stay involved with your child's middle school experience, let your voice be heard, and discuss all things Carroll.

Friday, January 15 is an early release day for all students, who will dismiss at 11:45 a.m.

There will be no school Monday, January 18 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Have a fantastic night! I'm looking forward to another epic week of learning and teaching ahead at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School.

Happy New Year!

We are already back in the swing of things at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School. 2016 will be an incredible year filled with dreaming, learning, leading, and innovating.

Congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Walz, who has transitioned from our STEM Coordinator and Instructional Technology Facilitator to a 7th grade Science position. Ms. Walz is looking forward to bringing her expertise in the area of Science instruction to our 7th grade team.

Ms. Ariel Lewis, one of Carroll's Physical Education teachers, will be moving to Hawaii with her family this month. We wish her the best in her new and exciting island life.

The Carroll team will be welcoming several new faculty and staff members in coming weeks. Once formal approval is received from our Human Resources department on new hires, families will be notified.

I'm looking forward to seeing many of our families at next week's PTA meeting, which will be facilitated in the Learning Commons on Wednesday, January 13th at 5:30 p.m.

Our second quarter is quickly coming to an end this month. Progress reports will be sent home with students on Friday, January 22.  Our team is closely monitoring student progress, as our primary focus this school year is to strengthen core instruction and exceed baseline student growth outcomes.

As we work to grow and improve in all aspects of best serving the students at our great school, please continue to contact us with any questions, concerns, and/or feedback that you believe will benefit the families with whom we serve.

Happy New Year!
