SchoolMessenger: Sunday, August 30, 2015

Good evening, Cougar Leaders! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with your weekly updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, August 31 - Friday, September 4.

We are off to an incredible start at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School. Thank you to all of our families for your continued support as our team's focus remains unremitting improvement in best serving the students at our great school.

If you have not done so already, please subscribe to our Carroll mailing list. Communication is a critical element in achieving optimal success. Not only is it a requirement for your child to receive his/her tablet at the end of September, it also provides families with the option of hanging up on my weekly phone call, as my phone messages will always be emailed through the distribution list on Sunday evenings.

Tuesday, September 1, Carroll's first PTA meeting of the 2015-2016 school year will be held at 6:30 pm in the media center. Please join us to hear from the PTA Executive Team and learn about their plans to enhance your child's academic experience. PTA membership is strongly encouraged.

Don't miss the meaningful learning and teaching happening in your child's classroom. Follow the Carroll Twitter handle, @CMMSCougars, my Twitter handle, @MsMacWilliams, and/or the many other handles managed by the lead learners here at Carroll. It is our privilege to share the exciting and innovative learning opportunities that our students are experiencing each and every day.

This Wednesday, September 2, your child will receive an important package of informational documents detailing this year's tablet rollout scheduled for late September. Please look for these important forms on Wednesday afternoon, and for those of you who prefer electronic copies, please note that all documents will also be posted to our website.

The Carroll Team is thrilled to announce a partnership with the A.E. Finley YMCA this school year, who will be facilitating a FREE Y-Learning Program for 24 students. This program will run from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm daily. Applications may be picked up in Student Services this week. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to support your child's education.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 17, Cougars. Join us to support the Carroll football team at Sanderson High School beginning at 4:00 pm, followed by dinner on the lawn and our fall Meet the Teacher event back at school.

This week will mark the end of all first quarter schedule changes. Thank you to those of you who submitted requests after Wednesday of last week for your patience and flexibility, as our state's scheduling database experienced an outage that impacted our ability to interact with online scheduling late last week. Fortunately, we are again up and running, and we're on track to iron out any remaining requests early this week.

As a friendly reminder, tonight is the close of our first round of PE Uniform orders. The total cost of a uniform is $10.30. Please visit our school website for more details.

Attention 7th & 8th Grade Athletes: Cheerleading Tryouts will be held tomorrow, Monday, August 31, Wednesday, September 2, and Thursday, September 3.

This Friday, September 4, is an early release day for students. Dismissal will be held at 11:45 am.

We are in for another epic week ahead at Carroll. Have a great night!

Epic First Day

Our Carroll family enjoyed an epic first day of school yesterday! Meaningful learning and teaching is already at the forefront of our practice as lead learners during the first week of school. #WeareCarroll and I am a #ProudPrincipal!

Good morning, Cougar Carpoolers! I can hear the sighs from the other side of this email. Carpool is not typically a popular topic.
At Carroll, we realize that our parents have obligations beyond transporting children to and from school. We live in a fast paced world and our schedules are chaotic at best. This is the reason that we are working diligently to establish clear procedures that support a safe and efficient carpool process. We are here to serve you.
When members of our school community follow carpool guidelines, the process runs smoothly and wait times decrease significantly. Conversely, when families choose to ignore communicated procedures, traffic patterns are disrupted, walking traffic slows the flow of vehicles, and wait times increase.
As a friendly reminder, all vehicles must enter our carpool by way of a right-hand turn off of Rowan. Left-hand turns are not permitted. Once on our campus, vehicles must fill up both lanes that run parallel to Rowan. This alleviates congestion throughout our neighboring streets. At the turn leading down to the sidewalk, vehicles merge to create a single line along our sidewalk, which marks our drop-off zone for students. Vehicles must pull as far forward as possible to expedite the drop-off and pick-up process.
Dropping students off on Rowan, Camelot, neighboring streets, or the bank parking lot is not permitted.
Thank you so much for your continuing support.

SchoolMessenger: Sunday, August 23

Good afternoon, Cougar Leaders, and welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! This is Mrs. MacWilliams calling with some important updates and reminders for the school week of Monday, August 24 - Friday, August 28.

In celebration of our epic year ahead, Dr. Merrill, Wake County Public School System's Superintendent, along with other district representatives and media outlets, will be on campus to join us for our kick-off tomorrow morning. We're looking forward to showing off our school spirit by wearing our Carroll gear. If you have a school shirt, please join us by representing our awesome Cougar community.

If your family utilizes our carpool, please note that some changes have been made to alleviate some congestion on the roads leading into our parking lot. The updated procedures have been posted to the Carroll website.

Communication is highly prioritized at our great school. In order to best serve your family, we are asking all parents and guardians to please subscribe to our mailing list by visiting our school website and completing the required information under CMMS Announcements. A parent subscription to our email distribution list will be required for our upcoming tablet rollout in late September.

Thank you to all of the Carroll families who joined us last week for our Cougar Camps, school tours, and our 7th & 8th grade schedule pick-up event. If you were not able to attend, please don't stress. Schedules will be available for students bright and early, upon arrival tomorrow morning.

All schedule change requests are due to the Guidance Office on Thursday, August 27. Forms have been posted to our school website and to the Cougar Chronicle. The administrative team will carefully review each request, and families will be notified of any schedule changes within 24 hours to ensure immediate implementation of all revised schedules. Please note that there are still many vacancies in our 6th grade Band and Strings course offerings.

The deadline to order PE uniforms is Sunday, August 30. Please visit our school website for additional information.

Attention Cougar Athletes: Football, soccer, and volleyball tryouts are this week. For specific details, please visit the Athletics link on our homepage.
